Labor has won…and there is much partying in Queensland

There have been fireworks heard tonight, and next door our neighbours are bursting out in parties.

Kevin Rudd as the incoming Prime Minister might have something to do with it. :)

I would not comment on Australian politics, being only here since February and still needing a lot to understand it. Watch this space 4 years later, when by then I am convinced I would be better versed at the matter. Politics…if it’s not the bread and butter of life! Politics are necessary evils.

The outgoing Prime Minister said tonight this is an example of great democracy at work. How true, how true. You’ll feel it too, when you, like me, comes from a country that though call itself a democracy, has vague definition of democracy. That was a long sentence, wasn’t it?

“There is no prouder job that anybody can occupy than being Prime Minister of this country.” – John Howard’s concession speech

Kudos to him on that marvelous speech. I want to know who his press officers are – they might teach Kevin Rudd’s press officers a thing or two for the utterly boring and uninspiring victory speech he gave tonight. Who wrote him that speech?? He is a much better speaker without reading from a script, come on! He even looked like he was clearly reading, as opposed to the free form speech that John Howard appears to have given.

Anyhoo, it’s not the speech that measures a nation leader’s capabilities, it’s his actions and the revolutions that he will bring. It’s not that Kevin Rudd is not adept at speech anyway. I have been following the elections closely and he is an able speaker. I guess reading scripts is not one of his talents.

With all the talks about China being the next big thing (aren’t they already are?), he will be a good tool for China—Australia relation. He majored in Chinese language in Australian National University (wow, it doesn’t get any cooler than that!) and speaks fluent Mandarin! Woah!

With the change of government, and the change of party that leads the country…it’ll be an interesting term. Let’s just all wait and see.

  1. yeah, this is true democracy. same thing as in usa and uk where opposition stands a big chance of winning the next election.

malaysia – way far off. the thinking of the oppositions winning the next election is practically nil. the present govt will drive in the msg of chaos and threats if the oppositions were to win.

only the present govt gets to broadcast their views but the oppositions are completely shut out, relying on the internet and internal publications. that’s the only democracy the present govt allows

real sad when u read abt other countries’ political set-up.

  2. Kevin Rudd is an China old-hand, isn’t he?
