Trust me to exit Kuching at the exact moment something big was bound to happen.
Roughly 11 months after leaving the place where I went to college, and bounded to Australia, tHe Spring opens.
Nope. It’s not a typo. It is spelled tee-capitalheh-ee-capitaless-pee-are-ai-en-gee.
Maybe it’s fashion, who knows. So I should be lIfe’s lIttle nOtebook. Doesn’t that makes you wanna strangle yourself reading it?
Anyhoo, there have been reviews around the blogdom about tHe Spring and I’m a bit bummed. Bummed enough to want to reroute Hero’s and I trip back to my hometown to stop at Kuching for a while. Just for tHe Spring.
Also, for the food. You can circle the whole Malaysia and the only place you can find Sarawak Kolo Mee is in Sarawak (well. duh.). But nobody else in Sarawak do it better than the Kuching mee apek.
“Kolo mee satu! Apa minum lu mau?”
Then I will say, as usual, milo peng.
Then while waiting for my kolo mee, I would gorge myself on heavenly dim sums sold in threes…in little round plates.
It’s not as if Brisbane/Gold Coast don’t have dim sum, you know? But…it’s different. Majority of Chinese immigrants here are from the mainland. When you’re Malaysian, you’re used to very strong flavours and Malaysian Chinese have adapted to that taste. I can tell you right now that even Chinese Fried Rice here is very bland compared to the Fried Rice we get back home. Advice to Malaysians that is used to strong flavours…if you need to get Chinese, find Szechuan. Otherwise you’d be eating and grumbling at the same time.
I feel like jumping on a plan right now.
Here are the reviews that manage to make me want to ditch Queen St Mall, David Jones (gasp!) and Myer Centre (gasp). Oh, while we’re at it, Westside of Chermside too. (BIGGER GASP!)
Why?
Simply cos these places don’t have kolo mee sold within their vicinity.
Yes. I make hell a lot of sense. Especially if you’re Sarawakian.
Here, you can read the reviews by yourself. Warning: if you have lived a significant amount of time in Kuching, and now is NOT in Kuching, or worse still is out of Sarawak or Malaysia, please do not read. It guarantees you flashback to kolo mee even if none of the reviews mention anything remotely kolo mee. Just. Trust me.
Or maybe that is just me.
(Absence of Kolo Mee makes me want to denounce Brisbane and Gold Coast).
It’s Spring in Kuching, theSpring that is.
tHe Spring Kuching, EP1 (like, I Know What You Did Last Spring Trip!
)
Ok, end of depressing post. Let me go to one corner and cry my heart out while I eat a very Australian steak.

Tend to miss Sarawak when your away… but hen again.. I have to agree, Sarawak has the best food around!!
Even when I’m away for a few days.. I just can’t help missing Mee Kolok, Laksa Sarawak.. and ROjak Kuching. SOmeone should open a franchise of these brands..and do one in Brisbrane! hehe..
Missing Sarawak huh? Haha…Though I think you being in the Land Down Under is cool, I do admit we tend to miss our beloved Land of The Hornbill when we’re away. (Even if it IS just to West Malaysia!) And YES, Laksa and Kolok, no other place has it like in Sarawak! YUMM! Thanks for the trackback btw. Glad you found it “informative”.
